Lag Shooting: (general)What is Lag? Lag describes the time it takes for your computer to send & receive information across a Network or the Internet. Computers, phone lines, servers, providers are all different & nothing is ever perfect. when you connect to the Internet you may think that your computer is a straight line connection to what ever you are viewing or playing at that time. The fact is to View one Webpage or file on the Net will most likely have to connect through about 10 or 12 possibly more jumps (nodes). These jumps take you through Telephone exchanges & Servers ect until you are able to reach the addressed destination you have ask for. Even when playing an "IP" game through a connection address you will still have to make jumps to connect to the other players. The same thing in all cases happens wether you have the worlds fastest computer or not, you’re going to have some degree of Lag. With each new jump your connection makes you’ll loose a “Packet or two”. The dreaded truth about playing online games:

Lag Time. reference to GameSpy (Active) & MSNzone (now defunct)
Lag time is measured in milliseconds or 1 thousandth of a second. This may not sound like much,
but when your playing a game it means the difference between hitting your target or missing. Each player in the game will have a different amount of Latency (Lag) in relation to you and the
other players.
The amount of latency does move up or down during game play which makes it hard for you to pin point 100% of the time. When in a game lobby you may be able to Right click on any person there and view their latency. The picture on the right shows play 01`s latency is 113ms in relation to you, but on the other hand player01 may see you as more or less than that amount. The green bars show roughly how good a latency the players have online.
The General Rule. The General Rule of thumb is, for every 100ms of latency you should aim in front or Lead your target by 1 Mech Length or so.
This should give you a good starting point. Keep aiming in front of your target & draw your shots closer until you notice
damage being taken. If you cycle through your display for the enemy damage you will notice the display change colour
relative to were the shot was taken. This will give you the general area on where to keep your aim. In practice the target
isnt where you see it, Game time has been over compensated or dragged to produce a false image of your target.
Most games where people have high speed connections this produces very little lag, so the aim point is close into the target.
